The Importance of Good Quality Translations

Just like in the United States and Canada, documents submitted to Cuban government authorities have to be translated into the official language. In Cuba, of course this means the Spanish language.


Your American, Canadian, or foreign documents must be translated into Spanish in order to be legalized by the Cuban Embassy for you to get married in Cuba. But, the Embassy will not accept just any translations.


Here are some things to keep in mind when looking for a translator:


1. Make sure that your translator is actually fluent in both Spanish and English - there are a lot of pseudo-translators who are native speakers of one language but not truly fluent in the other.


2. Make sure that your translator provides contact information in case the Cuban Embassy needs to reach them regarding the content of a translation.


3. Your translator should have access to a Notary Public for any documents which need to be notarized.


4. Make sure the Notary Public's commission is still valid - they do expire.


5. In most cases, a family member is not allowed to translate your documents for you.


If your translations are not accurate, this can cause your documents to be delayed or returned. It's always best to double check to ensure that your translator is reputable and will not cause more harm than good.
