In order to get married in Cuba as an American or Canadian citizen, a few documents are mandatory for you to have.

The Affidavit or Declaration of Single Status doesn't have any counterpart in the United States or Canada. However, it is a common document needed to get married in many current and former communist countries including Cuba, China, Vietnam, and many countries of the former Soviet Union.
This affidavit declares that you are legally able to marry in Cuba because you are not currently married anywhere else. It also confirms certain details about your identity which are mandatory to provide to the Cuban government.

A few things to be careful of when you are getting your Declaration of Single Status:
Your affidavit must follow a format accepted by the Cuban Consulate in order to be legalized.

Your signed Declaration of Single Status is only valid for 6 months for marriage in Cuba.
